Introduction :

Bolan medical college as seat of medical education in the province of Balochistan has a chequered history.

After partition the country was deficient in trained manpower, especially in the medical field. To filled the gap in the short period of time the Government of Pakistan decided to start condensed medical courses & for that a series of medical schools were established in the country. Thus in 1952 Amin-ud-din medical school was started in Balochistan. It worked for seven years & was closed as a matter of policy when it was felt that this category of doctors were no more required & instead it was decided that more medical colleges would be opened to train fully qualified doctors in the country at the level of MBBS & beyond . Earlier on the students from Balochistan would seek admission in the other colleges of the country & were facing great difficulty. After Balochistan got the status of separate province in 1970 the people of Balochistan started demanding a medical college of their own. In March 1971 it was agreed in principal that a medical college will be opened in Balochistan at Quetta.In 1972 , the Government of Pakistan acceding to the demand of the people of the province formally decided to set up a medical college at Quetta & agreed to run it as a federally funded project .Pending the construction of a new full-fledged hospital & college building , the classes were started in Sandeman Provincial Hospital Quetta & the building of a para-medical school was acquired for the college . The main building of the college & hospital (BMCH) have been completed & are fully functional . The laboratories of the basic department have been equipped with most modern equipment .Four hostels two for boys & two for girls & residence of teaching & ministerial staff, in reasonable number have been completed . At the moment there is accommodation for all the students .Twenty four batches of students numbering 2900 (approximately) have already qualified from here & the 25th batch is due to pass out. BDS classes were started in 1985 & now fully Function College is working & till date more than 100 BDS doctors have qualified. For updating the knowledge of the teachers & furtherance of medical science a research cell, as a branch of Pakistan Medical Research Council , is functioning since 1979 with the principal as its director . To make the medical education more meaning full community oriented medical education has been introduced in the college from last year . Plans are under way to introduce computer literacy classes , open a medical education department , establish a resource centre , a skills laboratory & upgrading the library to meet the new challenges of the time . The Govt. of Balochistan has recently established a post graduate medical institute at Bolan Medical Complex Hospital Quetta for post graduate courses

Admission Policy For Bolan Medical College, Quetta:
1. Total number of the seat for the MBBS course during the Academic Session 2003-2004 shall be 154.
2. And the total number of the seats for the BDS course during the Academic Session 2003-2004 shall be 25.
3. The break up for the Medical Seats of the Bolan Medical College, Quetta for the session 2003-2004 shall be as under.
a. Districts Metric Seats------------------------------------ 103 Seats.
b. Provincial Merit Seats (MBBS)------------------------- 10 Seats.
c. Reserve seats for:
i. Children of Doctor¡¯s of Balochistan-------------------03 Seats.
ii. Children of non Doctors Government Servant Working in BMC/Balochistan Health Services and Para Medical Staff of Provincial Health Department one yearly Rotation basis------- 01 Seats.
iii. Children of Minority Communities-------------------- 01 Seats.
iv. Disable person of Balochistan-------------------------01 Seats.
v. Foreign National( Nomination are placed on the discretion of Economic Affairs Division, Islamabad irrespective of any nationality) ------------------------------------------------------ 18 Seats.
vi. FATA----------------------------------------------------------- 17 Seats.
vii. Azad Kashmir---------------------------------------------- 06 Seats.
viii. Northern Area--------------------------------------------- 01 Seats.

Note:
The seat reserved for the children of the non Doctors Government Servant of Balochistan Directorate General Health Services Cadre, Para Medical Staff Cadre, and the Children of non Doctors Government Servants Cadre of Bolan Medical College of non Doctors Government Servant Cadre of Bolan Medical College, Quetta will be on one year rotation basis. They should have served in the BMC cadre and the Director General Health, Services cadre for the last ten Years.
